Overview

AdelaideAqua is a consortium of companies comprising McConnell Dowell Constructors, Abigroup Contractors, ACCIONA Agua and United Utilities Australia.  Together, they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years.

A multi-national consortium, AdelaideAqua has secured the contract to construct the new desalination plant. With extensive world-wide desalination experience and strong environmental credentials, the companies that make up AdelaideAqua boast numerous awards for desalination, environmental and engineering excellence in a range of construction projects.

McConnell Dowell Constructors

McConnell Dowell Constructors are a specialist engineering, construction and maintenance company with expertise in marine pipelines, tunnelling, mechanical and electrical projects.  

With strong experience across multiple tunnelling techniques, to date over 130km of tunnels and 25,000km of pipeline, McConnell Dowell is recognised as being in the top 10 global marine contractors and is one of the largest pipeline contractors in the world.

Abigroup Contractors

Abigroup Contractors are an engineering, building and asset development company that undertakes works in all areas of engineering, water infrastructure, mining and construction.  Abigroup own and operate the largest equipment fleet in Australia. The company is part of the Bilfinger Berger AG, is one of the top 10 global construction companies with a turnover in excess of AUD$12.5 billion, and employs more than 50,000 people.

ACCIONA Agua

ACCIONA Agua is part of the ACCIONA Group that has a market capitalisation of over €11.7 billion and activities in more than 30 countries with over 38,000 employees.  

ACCIONA Agua is one of the world’s largest designers, constructors and operators of reverse osmosis desalination plants and water treatment plants. ACCIONA Agua has a 2000-strong employee base who design, construct, manage and operate water plants to meet the needs of more than 50 million people in 20 countries around the world.  

United Utilities Australia

United Utilities Australia is headquartered in Adelaide and is part of the United Utilites Group, one of the world’s largest utility enterprises with a market capitalisation of approximately AUD$14 billion.  

United Utilities Australia provides water and wastewater infrastructure and operational services throughout Australia including 10 water filtration plants located along the River Murray from Renmark to Tailem Bend, and an advanced wastewater treatment plant at Victor Harbor.
